In the human body, the heart is the beginning point of communication that connects emotional mental and spiritual bodies. Heart rhythms affect physical health, emotional well-being, mental acuity and spiritual wellness, - all of which can be enhanced or depleted depending on how the heart “thinks”. The heart intuition we need to recapture comes through thoughts, images, sensations and feelings. Horses are such wonderful teachers as they experience their world in this state of enhanced sensory awareness. The heart Math institute is a wonderful resource for sourcing information on the affects of heart-brain communication. We have adapted some of their research and applied it to the experience of human-horse connection with wonderful results. Learn to manage stress, listen to your intuitive heart and re-connect to your body.

Working with horses is very much like a parent – child relationship. Horses require structure, boundaries, effective communication, nurturing and loads of patience. They will challenge us if they do not feel safe or trust us, much like children. The reward is that horses and children will give us their hearts if they are received with care, support and mindfulness.

Similar to children it is important to support horses in appropriate levels of autonomy, offering choices and opportunities to think for themselves, as opposed to being met with oppression and control. This journey is a dance of balance, and flexibility, not always easy, often frustrating and disheartening. It’s important to have resources and support in times of challenge. This program is designed to offer ‘tools’ and ‘skills’ to support your relationship with not only your child, but also your spouse, family, co-workers and friends.

We begin with the question, "Are you leading your life, or is it leading you?" Interacting with horses allows us to gain profound insights into where we are in right alignment with our values and intentions and where old stories or habits of thinking and behaving are now interfering with our ability to flow effectively in our relationships and life purpose. Through interactive exercises with horses we begin to refine our goals and practice more effective ways of being in our lives. The focus of this program  is about getting back in touch with our curious, imaginative self, letting go of old judgments and attitudes, re-connecting to what has heart and meaning, and re-learning how to listen to our intuitive, sensate wisdom.

Mindfulness is about shifting states of awareness which results from a willingness to change your perspective, experience or belief of something or someone. Change in many cases, may be a bit like the race horse that after the race and has its blinders removed before being turned loose into open pasture. Sometimes the horse will respond wildly, running as fast as it can in the direction of freedom, yet having no specific destination in mind.

At other times, the horse will move smoothly and effortlessly into the open field, feeling confident and in good spirits. On occasion, the horse will stand in place, immobilized and in a daze. If feeling sufficiently aggravated, the horse may rear up and kick its handler out of defiance. If it's let loose with other horses, its herding instinct may come into play. The horse will then follow the lead of the dominant mare.
People often respond similarly to the race horse when faced with the need to make radical changes and answer questions without external guidance. There's a learned tendency to bolt away from restrictions, even if there's no clarity about where one is bolting. There could be more clarity if people had more experience and confidence with accessing their heart's inner wisdom.
